(Sports Network) Englands Lee Westwood held a one-shot lead over Phil Mickelson as the final round of the Masters got underway Sunday, Westwood chasing his elusive first major championship and Mickelson looking to build on two previous wins at Augusta National.
It promised to be a dramatic finish, especially with Tiger Woods lurking near the top of the leaderboard.

Westwood long a part of the conversation about the best players who have never won a major slept on a one-shot lead despite a Saturday charge from Mickelson that included rare back-to-back eagles.

Ranked No. 4 in the world, Westwood is a steady and focused competitor, the reigning European No. 1 who is perhaps not as well known to American golf fans despite his consistent finishes in the major championships.

Westwood missed a putt on the last hole of the 2008 U.S. Open with a chance to join Woods and Rocco Mediate in a playoff, finishing third. The 36-year-old Englishman tied for third place at the last two majors in 2009, the British Open and PGA Championship.

He entered the final round at 12-under par.

Mickelson was a shot back at 11-under following a spectacular back-nine performance Saturday that included eagles at the 13th and 14th holes he holed out from the fairway for the second one.

Lefty has flown under the radar during Woods anticipated return to golf, but this fact remains: Besides Woods, Mickelson is the only other player who has won multiple Masters titles this century.

Mickelson captured his first major at the 2004 Masters, then won the green jacket again two years later.

And what more is there to say about Woods? The four-time Masters champion hadnt played competitively in 145 days when he teed of Thursday and shot his lowest first-round score at Augusta.

Woods scratched together his second straight 70 on Saturday and was four shots off Westwoods lead at eight-under par.
